Paula, I was struck by the phrase “come together for worship”. Do we come together for worship or to encourage one another? What is the primary purpose of our gathering? If it is for encouraging one another, then dressing “up” is not a good way to come dressed for the occasion. And if the primary reason is worship (which we should be doing every day – do we dress up every day?) and worship is figuratively prostrating oneself before God or service to God, why do we dress up to do so? We dress up for service, submission, sacrifice? makes no sense at all.

I can’t imagine Jesus enforcing a “dress code” among His disciples. Thanks for this post!
